Volunteer Opportunities

The Harpeth River Watershed Association (HRWA) is a non-profit conservation organization whose mission is to protect and restore the Harpeth River Watershed that flows through six counties in Middle Tennessee, and to provide expertise in statewide conservation policy.

HRWA collaborates with a broad range of federal, state, and local public and private sector partners to implement river restoration and watershed conservation and shape conservation policy in the Harpeth to ensure biologically healthy rivers and clean drinking water around the state.
Volunteers are vital to HRWA's success. Much of our restoration work and community impact relies on the generosity of individuals who generously donate their time and talent to assist on various projects.

HRWA has a variety of volunteer opportunities for individuals interested in protecting their water resources, learning new skills and having a great time! If you are ready to have fun, meet new people and actively work toward preserving our water resources for future generations, contact us today to join our fantastic volunteer team. Training may be required.

HRWA is looking for tree planting sites throughout the watershed. Do you know of a location that looks like this?

We are looking for areas where:

  • Trees and stream bank vegetation were washed away in the 2010 flood, leaving the stream bank bare.

  • The river is eroding the banks away and exposing soil (Soil is a leading cause of pollution in the Harpeth River Watershed!).

  • The stream bank has been mowed to the edge and cooperating owners would like to reforest their property and stabilize the stream bank.  (At least 35 ft)

  • We are NOT limited to just the Harpeth River Watershed!!

Please call us at 615-790-9767 or email at if you know of any sites.
